Certified Copy of Birth or Death Records
NH vital records are considered to be private and access to them
is restricted to those individuals with a Òdirect and tangible interestÓ in a
record in accordance with NH State Statures. To obtain a certified copy
of a birth, death or marriage, you must provide the following information in
writing:

If ordering the abstract by mail, you must also include a valid,
legible photocopy of your picture ID, such as a driverÕs license or other
government issued photo id. If you do not have a photo, id, please call
the Town ClerkÕs office at 603-787-6200 for assistance.
New Hampshire law requires that a nonrefundable search fee of
$15.00 be collected for each record requested. This search fee also
covers the certified record cost for the first certified copy. Additional
certified copies of the same record, ordered at the same time, are available
for $10.00 each. Please make checks payable to the ÒHaverhill Town Clerk.Ó
Marriage Licenses
A marriage license may be obtained from any town or city clerk in
New Hampshire regardless of where you live. Once you obtain the license,
you may be married anywhere in New Hampshire. Both the bride and groom
must appear in person to fill in the marriage worksheet. Please bring
proof of identification and age (birth certificate, driverÕs license). If you
were married before, you must present a certified copy of your divorce
or annulment decree or death certificate, whichever is applicable.
There is no longer a waiting period before you can be married in
the State of New Hampshire. You may be married the day you get the
license. There is no blood work required. Helpful hint: know the
state or country of birth for your parents.
If you need a certified copy of your marriage license, you may
request a copy in person or by providing the following information in writing:
Name of Groom
Name of Bride
Date of Marriage
Place of Marriage
Purpose for which the certificate is
needed
If requesting the copy by mail, you will also need to send a
photocopy of your picture ID, such as a driverÕs license or government issued
ID. If you are requesting a record for someone other than yourself, you
will need to state your relationship to the person whose record you want.

Exempt Records:
Birth records prior to 1901 are exempt from access restrictions.
Death and marriage records prior to 1948 are also exempt. You can
access these records through the town clerk where the original license was
obtained or through the Bureau of Vital Records Genealogy Center at 71 South
Fruit Street, Concord, NH. The center is open to the public at 8:15 to
11:45 am and 12:15 – 4:15 pm, Monday through Friday. (Please note
the vault closes at 3:30 pm on Wednesday). Volunteers will assist you in
your search
